The term "pink eye" is used for a variety of conditions.  The term "conjunctivitis" refers to inflammation of the conjunctiva (the thin membrane covering the whites of your eyes).  

Some examples of conjunctivitis are: allergic, bacterial, viral, chemical, etc.  The treatment varies depending on the cause.
